The Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar mission is to encourage autonomous artistry in emerging artist-level performers. Singers and pianists selected through a competitive, national audition process will work with professional opera singer Stephanie Blythe and Alan Smith, renowned collaborative pianist, vocal coach and composer. The one-week program will provide daily masterclasses and vocal coachings along with time for research and personal exploration before coming together to share and discuss music making, related aesthetics, and what it means to be a performing artist in today’s society. The seminar will focus on art song in English (original language) with an emphasis on American art song by contemporary composers.
The program is open to emerging singers and pianists between the ages of 23 to 35. Six singers and three pianists will be invited to participate in the one-week program held May 19-24, 2014. The seminar’s tuition, room and board are free with the selected participants only expenses being travel to the auditions in NYC, the seminar in Potsdam, NY and any incidental expenses they may incur.
